Wisdom Teeth

Dear Friend:

Ever wonder why we have wisdom teeth and why they are called that?

They are generally thought to be called "wisdom teeth" because they appear so late—much later than the other teeth, at an age where people are supposedly wiser than as a child, when the other teeth erupt.

Alternatively it may be that the term derives from a mistranslation of the corresponding term in Dutch in which language they are called 'verstandskiezen', literally 'far-standing-molars' referring to the fact that they are located at the back of the mouth. In Dutch such compound words are contracted (written without the spaces) leaving the first part of the word as 'verstand' which can correctly be translated as 'wisdom' in English.

So it is either because of the age theory or the Dutch people screwed up the spelling. I have to laugh because my Pastor is Dutch and he quite often makes fun of his heritage in a funny way.
Proverbs 9:10 10 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
James 1:5 5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
James 3:17 17But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

A WISE LIST
1. Fear the Lord
2. Knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
3. Pray for wisdom and God promises to give it generously.

WISE RESULTS
1. Pure.
2. Peace-loving.
3. Considerate.
4. Submissive.
5. Full of mercy.
6. Good Fruit.
7. Impartial.
8. Sincere.

WISE HEART CHECK LIST:
James 3:14-15 14But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil.
A 13 year old girl responded this way when asked, “Why do you need the fear of the Lord for wisdom?” Her response was, “With God I look for the things he would want me to do, not what I would want to do.”
Now that is wisdom!
Let’s pray: Lord I love and fear you. I need your wisdom. Give me a Wise Heart check-up. Thank you for giving me wisdom so generously. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
Asking,
Elaine
